Qualifications:

My career started when I was accepted at Chetham's School of Music and studied at the very highest level. I was offered a scholarship to Birmingham Conservatoire in 2004 and gained my BMus (hons) with a 2:1 in 2008. Over the next year I trained at Birmingham City University as a Teacher of Music and Peripatetic keyboard teacher and gained Qualified Teacher Status (PGCE). I achieved my Grade 8 violin and piano at a young age.

What kind of experience do you have?

During my training as a pianist I participated in various masterclasses and concerts. This included a concert at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and masterclasses with prestigious musicians such as Murray Mclachlan, Peter Donohoe, Margaret Fingerhut and Charles Camilleri. In my teaching experience I have had the opportunity to work in a range of schools and children from ages 4 to 18 years of age. I have taught music GCSE and helped children through their ABRSM exams and am able to help pupils achieve entry to Music colleges and Chetham's School of Music. My teaching also includes experience in different subjects across the curriculum e.g. science, art, drama and maths and I am well versed in using a variety of teaching strategies to suit the individual needs of my pupils.

Where do I teach?

I currently teach privately at my home in Congleton and at schools in the Biddulph area in Stafforshire. Full facilities are provided in my studio and pupils are invited to develop their skills at my home.

Which ages and levels do you teach?

My age range for piano and violin may range from 4 years and upwards. It is also never to late to learn and adults are very welcome to join. Taster sessions are available in holidays and at weekends to help you decide if music is the thing for you.

Which qualifications do I prepare my students for?

I teach pupils from Grades 1-8, Diploma level and beyond through a variety of exam boards including Trinity and ABRSM. I am able to assist with all levels of ABRSM Music Theory and GCSE/A Level Music examinations. I also prepare pupils for entry into Universities and Music Colleges across the UK and with the audition process they would be required to take.

Where and with whom did I train?

On the piano I began my lessons with Mrs Vera James and went onto learning with Miss Susan Bettaney at Chetham's School of Music where I also learnt with teachers for musicianship skills, sight reading, accompaniment, harpsichord/fortepiano, performance classes and duet lessons with teachers such as Peter Lawson, Simon Bottomley, Murry Mclachlan and Bernard Roberts. My violin tuition began with Sarah Morley and at Chetham's with Mr Vernon.

At Birmingham Conservatoire my training was with the Head of Piano, Malcolm Wilson and Victor Sangiorgio but also studied with various teachers in masterclasses and also in musicianship as well.

My current students.

My students range from beginner level up to Diploma level and higher. They mainly learn in a classical style but some of my students prefer to learn in a more modern style and are learning to play some current music in the charts. I always ensure that pupils choose the route they are most suited to pursuing.

Personal message for students:

I welcome any ability and age to try something new or alternatively, continue with something they are passionate about. I can teach music to the highest level and am extremely keen to pass on my knowledge of Music and the Performing Arts in general. Please feel free to contact me if you require further information about the learning of an instrument or musical skills
